The first light was shed in the minds of the organizers of this church has spread with such force has become a beacon in the center f the hill that beacons men, women, boys and girls into its path.

In the year 1913, in a log house, Jones Chapel had its beginning.in a prayer meeting. On Wednesday or Thursday evenings, the members met in a brush harbor. The number grew through witnessing and prayer and thus the need for an adequate house of worship became prevalent. Brothers Oscar Legrand, James Kelly Sr, and Daniel revels asked their landlords for a plot of land. The land was given on which the men of the church erected a building for worship and a building was erected. The church was first called the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. the learned person would read and them explain the bible. Reverends Crump, McCormick, and Hall were preachers in the community.

upon completion of the building, Rev. J.C. Chambers was called as the churches first pastor. the first deacons were Daniel Revels, Edcar Bell. Frank John, and Jim McCormick. the first Choir members were Mattie Hasty, Emma Kelly, Mary John, and Wiler Woods. Francis McQueen was the pianist, Eddie McQueen the4 sexton, and Will Ingram the church clerk. other pastors that served the church were G.B. Gilchrist, E.B. Nellum, M.Leggett, and C.H. Williams.

Rev. J.W. McLaughlin was called to pastor the chuck in early 1940. He caught a gleam of a new day and called the members together. A new sanctuary was built beside the highway and the church was renamed Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. deacons added under Pastor McLaughlin’s leadership were: Shank Wade, John Ledbetter, Will Douglas, John Mills, Will Campbell, Alex Patterson, Jr. James Kelly Jr., and Luther Murphy. Rev. McLaughlin’s pastorate was cut short due to a fatal automobile accident in late December 1953. The Rev. H.E. Edwards was called to pastor shortly thereafter.

Rev. Edwards inherited a and nurtured a grief-stricken church, however he continued to feed us God’s word. More deacons and trustees were added during his five and a half years as pastor.

Following Rev. H. E.. Edwards, Rev. Robert T. Gilchrist was called to pastor the church. Under his leadership, the first rest rooms and a dinning room were added to the existing building. The sanctuary was carpeted and the first organ was purchased. He instituted a very strong teaching and training program. Rev. Gilchrest resigned in 1964.

Rev. Grady W. Ware of Dillon, S.C. was called to pastor in late 1964. the church continued to grow and began full time services in 1974. The G.W. Ware Gospel Choir, the Men Choir, and the willing workers club were organized. new deacons and trustees were added and 22 acres of land were purchased around the building. in 1977, Pastor Ware, and associate minister J.F. Kelly organized the first Choir day at the church. Pastor Ware died after a long illness on the morning of the sixth annual Choir Day, November 12, 1983. HIs wife and three daughters united with the church and remained faithful members.

After the death of Rev. Ware, a pulpit committee was organized and the church called Dr. Howard Davis of Lumberton NC to be its pastor In 1984. Under his leadership, a successful pledge program paid off a debt of 19.000 dollars, which was followed by a montage burning ceremony in October 1985. Pastor Davis launched a building program and the groundbreaking service was held on the churches 74th. anniversary in March 1987. The building of the new sanctuary and Christian Education facility began in May 1987, and was completed in June 1988. Members donated many gifts furniture items to complete the interior. Pastor Davis resigned after five and a half years.

Our present pastor, Thurman (T.R. ) Davis became pastor on the third Sunday in February, 1991.Under his leadership, weekly noon day, evening, and youth bible study has been established. also, outreach and radio ministry, men’s monthly prayer breakfast, and the Golden Age Club has been established. Also, under the leadership of pastor T.R. Davis, nine members were ordained into the gospel ministry. they are: Lacy Blue, Jr., Walter Steele, Michael Battle, Ruben Battle, Marlon Leach, A.Benard Jones, Ravonda John, , Elizabeth Anderson, and Beatrice Blue.

The Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Located in Laurinburg NC continues to exist for the cause of Christ. We believe that the bible is the inerrant, inspired word of God, and that sinners are saved by grace and through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us.
